Beating the same drum

Habits are things that we consistently do on a regular basis, sometimes even without recognizing it for what it is. This is especially true with thoughts, words, and actions.

At the military parade some years back, we see how the parade was impeccably synchronized,  almost like the soldiers were marching to the same rhythm, to the same beat of a drum.

The well-executed parade, the showy display of emotions as citizens weep and sing songs of praise in remembrance of their late leader, got me wondering how much of all this is heartfelt.

Is it truly out of devotion and admiration for their leader? Or an inevitable outcome of constant exposure to propaganda? So much so that these public displays while visible, seem to be rather lifeless; though they are playing notes, they are playing the same old notes over, and over again.
