I drew this cartoon to illustrate how North Korea successfully manages to capture the attention of its (international) audience, such as the U.S., China and Japan, through its amassing of nukes and missiles. Each of the countries depicted here have something which they are superior for; the U.S. as a superpower, with great influence in practically all the fields (economy, politics and military), China as a rising power and its status as a global market, and Japan for its renowned technological expertise.
North Korea on the other hand, is a country stricken with poverty and severe food shortage problems. It can never compare economically and militarily with the other powers. So how does it best capture the attention of its audience? By conducting unregulated nuclear tests and amassing nukes. Undeniably, North Korea is giving quite a show to its audience. It has definitely garnered the attention that it has so desired. However, it remains to be seen if the show will endure on North Korea’s terms; unchecked and unregulated, and whether it can continue to sustain the interest of the international community.
